Best Amazon for the Netherlands
The Netherlands has had a full Amazon store since March 2020, but amazon.nl is not the only Amazon store Dutch shoppers can buy from. Because the Netherlands uses the euro, comparing it with Germany, Belgium and the other euro stores is straightforward. Compare item prices on Haggl, then confirm delivery and the final total at Amazon's checkout.
Use Haggl to compare EU Amazon prices before checking out.
When amazon.nl launched as a full store in March 2020, Amazon said Dutch customers could choose from around 100 million items, with free delivery on eligible orders above €20 sold and fulfilled by Amazon, and Prime at €2.99 a month. Before that, buying from Amazon in the Netherlands mostly meant ordering from the German store. Today most everyday orders can stay on the Dutch site, in Dutch, with Dutch customer service.
That does not mean amazon.nl always wins. Its range is smaller than Germany's, and the same model can be listed by different sellers on each store at different prices. For a phone case the difference rarely matters. For a robot vacuum, a camera or a coffee machine it can be worth five minutes of checking.
When amazon.nl is the sensible choice
- Small orders. At launch amazon.nl offered free delivery on eligible orders above €20 sold and fulfilled by Amazon. Check the current threshold on amazon.nl, but small baskets are where paying cross-border delivery hurts most.
- Dutch-language products. Dutch books, board games and toys with Dutch instructions are easier to find on the local store.
- Laptops and keyboards. If you want the US-International layout most Dutch users type on, check the listing carefully. Laptops on amazon.de normally have a German QWERTZ layout, and French or Belgian ones usually have AZERTY.
- You already pay for Prime on amazon.nl.Do not assume it gives you free delivery on another country's Amazon store. Check the delivery charge on each order.
When other EU stores are worth a look
Larger purchases are where comparing pays off. The model you want may be missing on amazon.nl, sold only by a third-party seller, or simply cheaper elsewhere this week. These are the stores Haggl compares that Dutch shoppers can check:
- Amazon Germany: the biggest EU store and the one most Dutch shoppers used before amazon.nl existed. Still the usual first comparison
- Amazon Belgium: a neighbouring euro store with Dutch-language pages, sometimes lower on individual products
- Amazon France, Italy and Spain: worth checking during their own national promotions
- Amazon Ireland and Poland: smaller stores, occasionally cheaper on single items
- Amazon UK: outside the EU since Brexit, so import VAT and handling fees apply. Read our delivery guide before ordering
Big sales are a good moment to check. A discount on one Amazon store is not always matched on the others. Our Black Friday guide explains how to compare sale prices across stores.
Purchases worth comparing across stores
- Robot vacuums
- Coffee machines
- Headphones
- Gaming consoles
- Cameras & lenses
One currency makes comparing easy
Unlike shoppers in Sweden or the UK, Dutch shoppers pay in euros on every EU Amazon store. The prices Haggl shows for amazon.nl, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain and Ireland are directly comparable, with no exchange rate or card conversion fee to factor in. Only the UK store, in pounds, and amazon.se, in kronor, need converting.
A product question, not just a price question
Plugs are rarely a problem: Dutch sockets take the same plugs as German and Belgian ones. Check two other things before you buy: the language of the manual, and whether the manufacturer's own warranty covers a product bought in another country. The listing or the brand's website usually says. Your legal guarantee against faults applies across the EU either way.
How to compare from the Netherlands with Haggl
- Search the exact model on Haggl. A model number beats a general description.
- Compare the item prices Haggl shows for amazon.nl, Germany, Belgium and the other stores. Haggl compares item prices only, not delivery.
- On the store that looks best, enter your Dutch address and check whether it delivers, what delivery costs and what the final total is.
- Compare that final total with amazon.nl before you pay.
