Amazon Delivery to Croatia

An Amazon order to Croatia starts in Germany, Italy or another EU country and finishes with a Croatian carrier, sometimes on a ferry. Where you live, which store you buy from and who the seller is all affect the delivery date and the total. This guide covers what happens to the parcel and what to check before you pay.

Use Haggl to compare EU Amazon prices before checking out.

The last leg is usually Croatian Post

A parcel from amazon.de or amazon.it crosses at least one border before it reaches you. In November 2020, Croatian media reported that Hrvatska pošta had signed an exclusive deal with Amazon to handle its parcels in Croatia, using the company’s large sorting centre in Velika Gorica near Zagreb. Neither side ever confirmed the agreement publicly, but Croatian Post remains the country’s dominant postal operator. The regulator HAKOM puts its share of the whole postal market in 2025 at 81% by number of services, letters included, and 56.3% by revenue. Items from third-party sellers can arrive with other couriers, such as GLS or DPD, so check the tracking page for the name of the company bringing your parcel.

Islands and the coast

Croatia’s coastline is broken into 1,244 islands, islets and rocks, of which about 47 islands have permanent residents. For anyone living on Brač, Hvar, Korčula or a smaller island, the ferry timetable is part of the delivery time. GLS says its usual next-day domestic delivery does not apply to the islands, which follow a separate schedule. Its terms add that some islands outside that schedule are served through another postal provider, without time guarantees.

In practice, that means three things. Trust the estimated delivery date Amazon shows for your island postcode, not a general figure. Allow extra time for anything you need by a certain day. And if you are on the island only for the season, consider using a mainland address you can reach.

Parcel lockers and pick-up

Amazon has no lockers of its own in Croatia, but the country has built a large locker network in a short time. HAKOM counted 2,892 parcel lockers at the end of 2025, up 9% in a single quarter, run by Croatian Post and private operators such as BOX NOW. Whether an Amazon order can go to one depends on the carrier delivering it. If a locker or a post office pick-up suits you better than home delivery, check the options in the carrier’s message once the parcel is on its way.

VAT: why a German price can rise at checkout

Croatia’s standard VAT rate is 25%, one of the highest in the EU. Each Amazon store’s listed prices include its own country’s VAT: 19% in Germany, 20% in France, 21% in Spain and Belgium, 22% in Italy, and 23% in Ireland and Poland. EU rules say that once a seller’s cross-border sales to consumers pass €10,000 a year, it must charge VAT at the rate of the country the goods are delivered to. Amazon is far above that limit.

So when a German listing is delivered to Croatia, a price that includes 19% VAT is recalculated at 25%, an increase of about 5%. From Italy the increase is about 2.5%, and from Ireland or Poland under 2%. That can be enough to close a small price gap you saw on Haggl, which shows each store’s own listed price. Small third-party sellers under the €10,000 limit may still charge their home VAT. Books are taxed at a reduced 5% in Croatia. In every case, the checkout total is the figure to go by.

Delivery charges and Prime

Amazon Germany says its delivery charges depend on the destination country, and they also differ between Amazon and third-party sellers. We have not been able to confirm current delivery prices or free-delivery thresholds for Croatia, and Croatian sources disagree about what Prime covers for Croatian addresses. Do not assume a Prime membership makes delivery to Croatia free. Read the delivery line on the final checkout page for each store you are comparing.

Amazon UK orders

Since Brexit the UK is a non-EU country, and some Croatian shopping guides simply advise against ordering from amazon.co.uk. If you do, Croatian VAT at 25% is due on the import. Amazon may collect it at checkout on lower-value orders. Otherwise the carrier collects it before delivery and may add its own customs handling charge. From 1 July 2026 the EU also charges a customs duty on low-value parcels from outside the EU: €3 per item category, according to DHL’s guidance. These parcels used to come in duty-free below €150. Our import fees guide has more detail, and the Amazon UK prices page covers the store itself.

Sending something back

Orders from EU stores carry the same rights as buying in Croatia. You can cancel within 14 days of receiving the item without giving a reason, and faulty goods are covered by a legal guarantee of at least two years. The practical part is the return trip: starting the return in the store’s Returns Centre and getting the parcel to a post office, locker or courier drop-off. That is easy in Zagreb or Split and slower from a small island. Check the return options and who pays return postage before you order anything large or heavy.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the store and the seller. In November 2020 Croatian media and SeeNews reported that Hrvatska pošta (Croatian Post) had signed an exclusive agreement to deliver Amazon parcels in Croatia, handled through its sorting centre in Velika Gorica. Neither company confirmed it officially. Third-party sellers may use other couriers, such as GLS or DPD. Your tracking page names the carrier once the parcel is handed over.
